Beef Burger Ingredients

  • 1.25 pounds ground beef
  • ½ cup cornmeal
  • ¼ cup quick oats
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • 2 tablespoons cooking oil
  • 3 tablespoons yellow mustard
  • 4 pieces hamburger buns
  • cup finely minced white onion
  • 16 to 20 slices dill pickle

Preparation Steps

  • In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, cornmeal, quick oats, salt, and black pepper. Mix just until everything is evenly combined.
  • Divide the mixture into 4 equal portions and shape them into thin burger patties. Press them fairly flat so they cook up with crisp edges.
  • Heat the oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Once hot, add the patties and cook for 3 to 4 minutes per side, or until browned, crisp on the outside, and cooked through. Work in batches if needed.
  • Spread yellow mustard on the inside of each hamburger bun.
  • Place a cooked patty on each bun, then top with minced onion and dill pickle slices.
  • Close the burgers and serve right away while hot.

Notes

Do not overmix the meat to keep the burgers tender. Cook in a hot skillet for the best crispy edges. Serve immediately for optimal texture and flavor.
